The standard game uses two decks of 52 cards each, plus two Jokers. Each player is dealt 13 cards. The objective is to form valid sequences and sets before any opponent, then make a valid declaration. Every valid declaration must contain at least one pure sequence. Without it, the hand is invalid regardless of everything else.

A set is three or four cards of the same rank but different suits — for example, 8♥ 8♦ 8♣ or K♠ K♥ K♦ K♣. Sets can include Jokers as substitutes. Note: you cannot have two cards of the same suit in the same set. Sets complement sequences but cannot replace the mandatory pure sequence requirement in your declaration.

On your turn you do two things: Draw one card (from the closed deck or the open discard pile) and then Discard one card to the open pile. The clock is running — m.fb001 tables give each player 30 seconds per turn. If you exceed the time limit, an automatic discard occurs. Managing your time is part of tournament play.

When your 13 cards form at least two sequences (including one pure sequence) and the rest are valid sets or sequences, you can declare. Place the declaring card face-down on the finish slot and reveal your grouped hand. If valid, you win with 0 points. Opponents count their ungrouped card points — these become your score in Points Rummy and the elimination-pressure currency in Pool Rummy.

An invalid declaration is penalized with 80 penalty points regardless of the actual card values in hand. This is one of the costliest mistakes in Rummy — declaring too early without verifying your pure sequence requirement.
